I was going to launch this range in the new year but thought Halloween was the perfect time to show it off due to the inspiration for this range coming from my love of mythology. 'Lucifer' in Latin means 'light bringing' or 'morning star'.

After a while of cajoling by a friend to do a private jewellery class for her and a few friends I caved in. I’ve taught jewellery making in the past at different establishments but never in my studio. I’ve always protested I’m too busy but it’s a new year and one of my resolutions is to get out of my comfort zone! I must admit I was apprehensive, would they enjoy it? How would they get on in a working studio with no previous experience?
The day started off at 10am, meeting all four ladies and talking & sketching out what each one would like to make. Two made silver earrings and two made silver rings, all unique to their style. Simplicity was going to be the key but they challenged me. And I loved it! Within a few hours they had all accomplished & finished making their first ever piece of silver jewellery by their own fair hands! I was really proud of what they achieved and they seemed delighted too. It not only made me think I should do this more often but they actually inspired me! If you’ve read this and would like to experience a day at a jewellery designers bench and walk out with having created something uniquely made by you then please get in touch. You can either call the studio on 01446 771656 or email direct to [email protected]. Emma-Kate's studio is based above High Society (one of the country's leading bridal boutiques), 85 Eastgate, Cowbridge, Wales, CF71 7AA. (N.B. The studio is based in the pretty market town of Cowbridge, with a plethora of lovely eating & watering holes, and places of interest so if you're planning on visiting it's easy to make a day of it here!) The NATO summit took place in Wales this year, 4-5th September 2014, with the largest ever diplomatic gathering of world leaders in the UK. There was a fantastic buzz in the build up to the event and one evening whilst discussing the event with some friends I decided to make Barack Obama, a pair of personalised sterling silver cufflinks to commemorate his visit to Wales & the momentous event. The following morning I got to the studio and cracked on with making up the cufflinks, popped them in the post to The White House and thought no more about them. A few weeks later on a Saturday morning I was working at the bench when I heard ‘OMG…that’s amazing!’ I’ve never heard my assistant get so excited, the postman had just delivered the most prestigious envelope I’ve ever seen, a thank you letter from President Barack Obama. It felt quite surreal receiving the letter and the fact that he had made the effort to write back to me was something I really treasured and I thought what a real gentleman! |
