The NATO summit took place in Wales this year, 4-5th September 2014, with the largest ever diplomatic gathering of world leaders in the UK. There was a fantastic buzz in the build up to the event and one evening whilst discussing the event with some friends I decided to make Barack Obama, a pair of personalised sterling silver cufflinks to commemorate his visit to Wales & the momentous event. The following morning I got to the studio and cracked on with making up the cufflinks, popped them in the post to The White House and thought no more about them. A few weeks later on a Saturday morning I was working at the bench when I heard ‘OMG…that’s amazing!’ I’ve never heard my assistant get so excited, the postman had just delivered the most prestigious envelope I’ve ever seen, a thank you letter from President Barack Obama. It felt quite surreal receiving the letter and the fact that he had made the effort to write back to me was something I really treasured and I thought what a real gentleman!
