How should I care for my jewellery?
Every piece of Emma-Kate Francis jewellery comes with a little card about caring for your pearl jewellery as we understand how important it is to keep your jewellery looking as beautiful as the day you bought it.
In brief, sterling silver jewellery is made to be worn but coming in contact with everyday products like hairspray, perfume, chlorine can all cause the silver to tarnish.
Sterling silver is made up of pure silver and copper and it’s the copper that reacts and can lead to the sterling silver looking darker or even forming dark spots.
Ideally buff using a polishing cloth using silver dip, pad or polish to restore the silver jewellery to it’s natural sparkle. If there are grooves or surface pattern be careful as the polish can tend to sit in it.
Most pearl jewellery will be set with a glue or resin and can be affected by heat, water & chemicals. You have to be particularly careful as dipping will both damage the lustre of the pearl and also unseat it from the metal.
With pearl rings inparticular we recommend removing the ring before washing, cleaning or putting on hand cream!
For Pearl Jewellery do this very occasionally/only when necessary as follows:
- Use a soft toothbrush & silver dip.
- Dip the brush into the solution and brush the metal and gently around the pearl – never immerse.
- Don’t leave it on too long and rinse with cold water. Lightly blow around the pearl so that residue doesn’t collect.
- Wipe with a kitchen towel and buff with a polishing cloth.
The above is only guide and we can't accept any responsibility for any damage caused by using the above methods of caring for your pearl jewellery.
